P.P TELAŠĆICA

Telašćica is one of the biggest, safest and deffinatelly most beautifull croatian natural harbours, which makes it obligatory nautical destination. It occupies the south of Dugi otok and makes an amazing harmony of nature on 70,50 km˛. Three natural phenomena make this park so special::
  • harbour Telašćica, 8 km cut deep into the coast, with 6 islands and rocks in it, 25 bays and 69 km of well-indented coastline. The entrance in bay is surrounded by 14 big and small islands
  • the ciffs of Dugi otok, the highest cliffs of Adriatic (166 m), with a magnificent panoramic view on Kornati islands and to the open sea
  • salt lake Mir, the only salt lake on our coast, filled with sea water which circulates between lake and outter sea.

The characteristic of the park are also it's rich flora and fauna. Mediterranean vegetation with over 400 plant species – specially interesting are endemic species, like Star thistle (Centraurea ragusina L), medical plants and 8 species of wild orchyds. The animal life includes 79 bird species, dolphins, frequent visitors of Telašcica harbour in springtime, turtles and muflons. Undersea life includes around 250 plant and 300 animal organisms. There are numerous caves under sea, some of which have very impressive undersea entrances. Rare species are living in those caves, like, for example, carnivorous sponge (Asbestopluma hypogea).

Besides that, in cracks of the cliffs lives red coral, a species that was much frequenter in the Adratic before, but has become rare because of it's slow growth and ???.

If you are staying in Sali, we recommend you to visit the park on foot, because the road almost entirely leads through beautifull olive groves.
The beauty of this area was discovered by the Romans. The remains of villa rusticae (Roman mansion) in Mala Proversa passage witnesses that.
